Sage Green Kitchen Backsplash in Edgewood
About This Project
This Edgewood kitchen renovation involved a full backsplash installation using glossy sage green 4x4 square tiles. The kitchen had original 1940s cabinetry that the homeowner was keeping, which meant working carefully around slightly uneven cabinet faces. We set the tile to level rather than to the cabinet line, using a scribe cut at the top of the base cabinets to account for the variation. The glossy glaze on these tiles reflects light well in this north-facing kitchen.

What We Did
- Assessed the existing wall surface and repaired a small area of damaged drywall near the sink
- Set tile from a level reference line, working outward from the sink to keep the layout centered on the main visual axis
- Cut scribe tiles at the cabinet face line to account for the original cabinetry's slight irregularity
- Grouted with cream grout to complement the tile color and sealed the finished surface
Sage green tile in a craftsman kitchen is a natural pairing. The color reads differently at different times of day in Edgewood's older homes, which tend to have smaller windows than newer construction.
