Gray Tub and Shower Combo in Edgewood
About This Project
This Edgewood bathroom renovation replaced original tub surround tile with light gray 12x24 porcelain on the walls and a matching format on the tub deck. The plaster walls in this older home required a skim coat of thinset before backer board could be installed, because plaster that's been painted multiple times doesn't provide reliable adhesion on its own. The light gray tile and white grout keep the bathroom feeling open despite the modest footprint typical of Edgewood cottages.

- Installed cement backer board over skim coat, taped seams, applied waterproof membrane in wet zone
- Set 12x24 tile in a horizontal offset pattern, maintaining consistent grout joints throughout
- Caulked at all inside corners and at tub-to-tile transition, grouted remaining joints and sealed
Tub surround retiles in Edgewood cottages are one of our most common jobs. The combination of older plaster walls and decades of steam makes these spaces worth doing properly.
