Dark Slate Master Bathroom in East Atlanta

Dramatic dark slate large-format bathroom tiles with freestanding white tub and matte black fixtures in East Atlanta home

About This Project

This master bathroom in an East Atlanta infill home on a Glenwood Park-adjacent lot called for a full tile installation across walls, floor, and the shower surround. The homeowner chose large-format dark slate-look porcelain (24x48) for the walls and a matching 24x24 format for the floor. The matte black fixture package was already selected, so we coordinated the layout to center the wall tile precisely behind the freestanding tub. The slab substrate required crack isolation membrane in two areas before tile could go down.

What We Did

  1. Applied crack isolation membrane to two sections of the concrete slab floor and allowed full cure time
  2. Installed cement backer board on all shower walls and applied RedGard waterproof membrane inside the shower zone
  3. Set wall tile starting from a centered horizontal line behind the tub, working outward to keep the layout symmetrical
  4. Grouted with unsanded dark grout to maintain the monolithic appearance and sealed all surfaces

This job is a good example of what newer East Atlanta construction looks like on the inside: clean slab substrate, open-plan bathroom layout, and a homeowner who wanted a hotel-grade finish.
